One-Day Workshops 2009•Herbal First Aid - Sunday May 31stWe will spend a day looking at how to use wild and garden herbs in First Aid and acute conditions, including those herbs suitable for children. Venue: 10:30 am - 16:30 pm at Anam Cara, Upper Leachkin, Inverness. Cost: £40 (without lunch) or £45 (with lunch). •Using Herbs at Home: A Practical (Part I) - Saturday June 13thPoyntzfield Herb Nursery provides a unique environment in which to learn about herbs in practice. We will look at the basics of plant identification, how to use a basic excursion flora, and collecting and processing herbs. We will be making comfrey ointment in the afternoon and participants will get to take away a pot of ointment. Venue: 10:30 am - 16:30 pm at Poyntzfield Herb Nursery, on the Black Isle. Cost: £40 •Cooking with Herbs: Spice up your life! - Saturday July 18thWe will spend a day collecting, processing, and cooking with wild, garden, and exotic herbs. We will talk about designing a herb garden for the kitchen and the many benefits of foraging for our food. Venue: 10:30 am - 16:30 pm at Poyntzfield Herb Nursery, Black Isle. Cost: £40 •Using Herbs at Home: A Practical (Part II) - Saturday August 15thA second herbal practical at Poyntzfield Herb Nursery. Following on from June, we will look at the different kinds of herbal preparations, and make and taste or apply each kind of preparation. We will talk about designing a small herb plot in your garden and which plants might be suitable. We will be making calendula cream in the afternoon and participants will get to take away a pot of cream. Venue: 10:30 am - 16:30 pm at Poyntzfield Herb Nursery, on the Black Isle. Cost: £40 •The Herbal Kitchen in Autumn - Saturday October 3rdWe will spend a day talking about foraging, safe collection and processing of autumnal herbs for consumption, and cooking with wild, garden, and exotic herbs in autumn and winter. We will also look at Chinese principles of using food as medicine and applying 5-Element theory in the kitchen. Evening Talks 2009•The Herb Garden - Tuesday May 12thA talk on the history, design principles, and practice of building a herb garden. Topics will cover choosing the right plants for the person and position of the garden, harvesting and processing, and simple uses for herbs in the household. Venue: 19:30 pm at the Mackenzie Centre on Culduthel Road, Inverness. Cost: Free.
•Herbal Treatment for Children and Babies - Monday May 18thA talk on simple ways to treat children and babies at home with simple herbal remedies that you can buy or grow. Heather will share her experiences of treating her own baby with herbal medicine. Venue: The Riverdale Centre, Church Street, Inverness, May 18th 18:00 - 19:00 pm. Cost: £5. |
